What are Private Lessons?
Private lessons are an excellent way to help skaters of any age or level excel. They are a great addition to group classes and are the next step your skater takes to begin competitions, performances and more advanced testing. Below are some common questions regarding private lessons along with a little bit of information to help you get started.
When are lessons held?
Private lessons can be taught on Public Sessions or Freestyle Sessions based a skater’s needs and scheduling availability. Public sessions are the rink’s open skate times – open to hockey, figure and the general public. Freestyle Sessions are for figure skaters (and occasionally hockey players if they are in a lesson) and provide a better practice and training atmosphere. The biggest difference between the two are the amount of skaters on the ice and and the ability to use the overhead speakers to play music when practicing for an upcoming competition or recital. While Public Sessions may have hundreds of skaters on the ice, Freestyle Sessions will only have 30-50 skaters on the ice at one time.
How many lessons should I take per week?
The recommended number of lessons per week will vary based on age, skill level and the skater’s goals. Often times 1 lesson per week is fine if you are looking to supplement group lessons but, for skaters interested in and preparing for performances and competitions, a minimum of 2 or 3 lessons per week is more appropriate. The more lessons and practice time a skater gets weekly will directly affect their rate of progress. I do suggest some general recommendations skaters should spend on the ice each week in my coaching policies as well but, please keep in mind these are general recommendations and my suggestions per individual skater will vary.
What are the cost of private lessons?
Lesson rates are $100/hour and are typically lessons 30 minutes or 1 hour in length. All lesson fees can be paid via cash or Venmo and are to be paid weekly or after each lesson. In addition to your lesson fees, you are also responsible for ice time fees which will vary based on session type and length.
