About me…
My Philosophy:
The joy and lessons learned in this sport are equally important to me as teaching edges, positions, and the mechanics of jumps and spins. My goal as a coach is to guide skaters from their first steps on the ice with strength and confidence to whatever achievements they set their set their hearts on.
I have learned throughout the years that figure skating is a gift. It provides challenges, offers opportunities, teaches discipline, and the feeling of gliding across the ice can honestly not be matched. Since the time I was young I have wanted to coach and even now, after spending 40 years of my life on the ice, I am grateful for the amazing opportunities this sport has given me and all it has taught me.
As a coach, I am a member of US Figure Skating and the Professional Skaters Association. I have multiple Ratings through the Professional Skaters Association including Registered Free Skate, Certified Moves, Certified Group, and Registered Program Director. I am a double gold medalist in Free Skate and Moves in the Field, a Senior Ladies National competitor, and graduated from Long Beach State with a degree in Child Development and Family Studies.
Skating is a gift
I take my work very seriously. My students are very important to me and I want for them to have the same positive experiences that I did as a child…that’s what it’s all about! Some skaters may go on to be National competitors, some may tour and travel the country or world, some may compete locally, and some may want to take lessons at their local rink so they can skate faster than their friends. But, whatever their goals or wishes may be they are all equal in value and they all start with the same thing…that first step on the ice!
I have spent most of my life on the ice. In fact, I can’t even remember a time before I was a skater. It’s not just my work, my childhood memories or an easy way to get some exercise, it has become one of my passions and my life. Just as much a part of me as my family or my dearest friends.
